Janet S. Hayes, 73, of Festus died Nov. 17 following a two-vehicle accident at Hwy. 61 and Beth Drive not far from Mercy Hospital Jefferson south of Festus, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At about 11:50 a.m., Hayes was driving a westbound 2007 Nissan Versa and after stopping at the intersection of Beth Drive and Hwy. 61, she continued on, failing to yield to a northbound 1997 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Jedidiah D. McCormick, 40, of Festus, and the front of the Sliverado struck the left side of the Versa, the report said.
Hayes was transported by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where she was pronounced dead at 12:21 p.m.
McCormick sustained minor injuries and was transported by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South, where he was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.
McCormick was wearing a seat belt; Hayes was not. Both vehicles incurred extensive damages, according to the report.
