A Festus woman was killed and an Arnold man and a St. Louis woman were hurt Sunday evening (May 22) in a one-car accident on Perry County Road 854 just north of Perry County Road 858 in Perry County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.
Kayla A. Hawkins, 22, of Festus died in the accident, the report said.
Ronald M. Smith, 29, of Arnold was seriously hurt, and Samantha M. McClain, 23, of St. Louis sustained minor injuries, according to the report.
At 6:40 p.m., Smith was driving a 2006 Dodge Charger east on Perry County Road 854 and failed to negotiate a curve to the left, before the car ran off the right side of the road, struck a dirt embankment and overturned, partially ejecting Hawkins, who was a passenger in the car the report said.
Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
Smith was taken by helicopter to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, the report said.
However, a hospital spokesman said this morning (May 23) that the hospital had no information about him.
McClain, who also was a passenger in the car, was taken by ambulance to Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital in Ste. Genevieve, the report said.
None of three was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.
The car was totaled, the report said.
