A Festus man and woman were injured Friday evening (Dec. 17) in a two-vehicle accident on Hwy. B north of Forest Drive west of Hillsboro, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 5:20 p.m., Frederick J. Phelps, 49, of Festus was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee north on the highway, and while negotiating a curve to the left, lost control of the vehicle because of the road conditions, and the Jeep traveled into the southbound lanes, where it struck a southbound 2004 GMC Sierra pickup head-on, the report said.
Dennis E. Schultheis, 42, of Hillsboro was driving the pickup. No injuries were reported for him.
However, Phelps had minor injuries, and a passenger in the Jeep – Melissa D. Pinckard, 40, of Festus – was moderately injured. Both were transported by Valle Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, according to the report.
All those involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.
The Jeep was totaled, and the pickup was extensively damaged, the report said.
