A 74-year-old Festus man was seriously hurt Tuesday night (Jan. 2) after he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed along Victoria Road east of Haverstick School Road between Festus and De Soto, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At about 8:30 p.m., Franklin B. Armstrong was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Captiva west on Victoria Road and fell asleep before the SUV crossed the center of the road, ran off the left side and struck a tree, a report said.

He was taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County, where he was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said today (Jan. 5).

Armstrong was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.

The Captiva was totaled, the report said.
