Alan Turner, 69, of Festus died Sept. 27, two days after he was struck by an SUV on YMCA Drive, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.

Turner was hit at about 7:40 p.m. Sept. 25 by a 2019 Toyota RAV4, which was driven by a 23-year-old Herculaneum woman, Lewis said.

He said a passenger was in the SUV, and both the driver and passenger remained on the scene after the man was struck.

The driver told police she didn’t see Turner and stopped when she and the passenger heard a thump. When they saw the SUV had hit a person, they called 911 and remained at the scene, Lewis said.

On Monday (Sept. 30), Lewis said the incident appeared to have been an accident, but it was still under investigation.

After the accident, Turner was transported to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City before being airlifted to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, Lewis said.
