A 29-year-old Ferguson man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a car he was driving ran off the road and into a ditch. The man was not injured in the accident, Eureka Police reported.

At about 8:15 p.m. Nov. 4, Eureka Police received a report that someone driving a 2010 Ford Focus had ended up in a ditch after exiting westbound I-44 onto Hwy. 109. Police had received reports of someone driving the Focus erratically on the interstate prior to the accident, Lt. Michael Werges said.

The Ferguson man was sitting in the driver’s seat of the Focus when officers arrived at the ditch between East Fifth Street and I-44. An officer allegedly smelled alcohol on the man’s breath, the report said.

The man allegedly refused to take field sobriety tests, and he was arrested. He was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and issued a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI, Werges said.
