A woman crashed an SUV into Radiant Tan in Crystal City on Tuesday morning (Jan. 4). No one was injured in the accident, Crystal City Police reported.
At about 11:15 a.m., Mary Lalumander, 72, of Festus was driving a Nissan Rogue when she crashed into the tanning salon, 738 S. Truman Blvd., the report said.
Lalumander told officers she believed the vehicle was in reverse when she accelerated and drove onto the sidewalk in front of the salon. She said she panicked “and gave the vehicle more throttle” before crashing through the front window of the building, the report said.
The owner of the business was inside behind the counter when the SUV struck the building. She told police her left leg was struck by the counter as it was pushed back, but she did not report an injury.
Crystal City Police Capt. Mike Pruneau said the Rogue had slight damage, while the building was significantly damaged.
“It must be fixed until it can reopen,” he said.
Lalumander was wearing a seat belt, according to the report.
