Dittmer man killed when pickup crashes into rock bluff
Donald A. Chandler, 54, of Dittmer was killed Monday afternoon (Jan. 21) in a one-vehicle accident on Hwy. 30 at Osage Executive Circle in Byrnes Mill, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 3:53 p.m., Chandler was headed west in a 2015 Ford 350, crossed the center median and the eastbound lanes, and the pickup struck a rock bluff, the report said.
He was trapped in the pickup, which was resting partially on its side against the bluff, and High Ridge firefighters used rescue tools to cut away a part of the truck to get Chandler out, said Engineer John Barton of the High Ridge Fire Protection District.
Chandler was pronounced dead at the scene by North Jefferson Ambulance personnel, according to the report.
He was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.
The pickup was extensively damaged, the report said.
