fatal traffic accident

A De Soto woman and a St. Louis man were killed and a St. Louis woman was seriously injured early this morning, April 9, in a wrong-way accident on I-70 west of St. Charles Road in St. Louis County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 1:05 a.m. Laci A. Meyer, 28, of De Soto reportedly was driving a 2016 Ford Escape west in the eastbound lanes of the interstate, and Rodney D. Sharp, 63, of St. Louis, driving an eastbound 2010 Chevrolet Silverado, could not avoid the Escape, and the two vehicles collided head-on. Then, an eastbound 2004 Chevrolet Impala struck the rear of the Silverado, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

Chauntay D. Carey, 36, of St. Louis was driving the Impala. She was taken by ambulance to SSM Health DePaul Hospital in Bridgeton, the report said.

Both Meyer and Sharp were pronounced dead at the scene by Pattonville Fire Protection District personnel, according to the report.

Neither Carey nor Sharp was wearing a seat belt, and Meyer was wearing one, the patrol reported.

The three vehicles were totaled, the report said.
