A 26-year-old De Soto woman was arrested after the car she was driving early this morning (March 25) ran off the side of Hwy. 21 north of Britton Road south of De Soto. A child was injured in the accident, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

The woman was arrested for first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, according to a highway patrol arrest report. She will not be named unless she is charged.

At about 1:30 a.m., the woman was driving a 2009 Ford Focus north on Hwy. 21 with a 7-year-old child in the car, and the Focus ran off the right side of the road and struck several trees, the report said,

No injuries were reported for the woman.

However, the child, Ezekiel S. Rorer, was moderately injured in the accident and transported by Valle Ambulance to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, where he was listed in stable this morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The woman was wearing a seat belt, but the child was not using a safety device, the patrol reported.

The Focus was totaled, the report said.

The highway patrol arrested the woman at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and released her pending application for warrants.
