man in handcuffs

A 39-year-old De Soto man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated following a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon (Oct. 14) on Hwy. 221 west of Henrich Road southwest of Farmington in St. Francois County. He was seriously injured in the crash, and a Des Arc woman who was driving the other vehicle sustained minor injuries, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 3:42 p.m., the man was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla south on the highway, reportedly traveling too fast for the road conditions, and he failed to negotiate a left curve, crossed the center line and struck a northbound 2016 Buick Encore. Then, the Encore ran off the right side of the road and overturned, the report said.

Jada N. Brooks, 19, of Des Arc was driving the Encore. She was taken by ambulance to Parkland Health Center.

The De Soto man was taken by ambulance to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, the report said.

Neither driver was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.

Both vehicles were totaled, the report said.

The highway patrol arrested him at 5:35 p.m. at the hospital.

His name will not be published unless charges are filed against him, and as of Friday afternoon (Oct. 15), none had been filed.
