traffic accident patrol patch

A Crystal City man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle traffic accident Thursday afternoon (Aug. 12) on I-55 south of Meramec Bottom Road in the Oakville area of south St. Louis County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Thomas Flowers, 59, was driving north on I-55 at 12:35 p.m. and was overtaking a slower vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle applied his brakes, and Flowers attempted to avoid the vehicle by steering to the left, then overcorrected to the right and lost control of his 2005 Ford Escape. The Ford then went off the left side of the road, struck a concrete median barrier, and overturned.

Flowers sustained serious injuries and was taken by the Mehlville Fire Protection District to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, the report said.

An update on his condition was not available.

Flowers was wearing a seat belt, the report said. The Ford was totaled in the crash.
