A Bonne Terre man and a Potosi toddler were injured Friday evening, May 20, in a one-vehicle accident on I-55 north of Imperial Main Street, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 5: 24 p.m., Brian K. Smith, 44, of Bonne Terre was driving a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 south on the interstate and ran off the right side of the road, where the pickup struck a guardrail and then returned to the road, crossed all lanes of traffic, struck a concrete median and overturned, the report said.
Smith was seriously injured and taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County.
A 2-year-old Potosi boy was a passenger in the pickup, and he had minor injuries and was taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.
The man was not wearing a seat belt, and the toddler was restrained in a safety device, the patrol reported.
The pickup was totaled, the report said.
The patrol did not release the toddler’s name because he is a juvenile.
