A 28-year-old Arnold woman was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated and other offenses following a two-vehicle accident Monday evening (Sept. 16) on the I-55 West Outer Road south of Commerce Drive just south of Arnold. The woman was hurt in the accident, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 6:52 p.m., the woman was driving a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee south on the West Outer Road, and the vehicle ran off the left side of the road and struck a fence before traveling back onto the road, where the front of the Jeep struck the right side of a southbound big rig, the report said.
Richard E. Meier, 61, of Maryville, Ill., was driving the big rig, a 2016 International ProStar. No injuries were reported for him.
However, the woman was moderately injured and taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where she was listed in good condition today (Sept. 17), a hospital spokesman said.
Both she and the truck driver were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported
The Jeep was extensively damaged, and the big rig was moderately damaged, the report said.
The highway patrol arrested the woman later that evening at the hospital for allegedly driving while intoxicated, driving in a careless and imprudent manner and leaving the scene of an accident, according to the report.
