A 26-year-old Arnold man was struck by a van at after he allegedly stepped into traffic on I-55 near the Hwy. 141 exit in Arnold. All but one northbound lane was closed for about an hour following the incident, authorities reported.

A witness told Arnold Police that at about 11:30 a.m. June 15 the man was standing on the shoulder of the interstate near the exit, and as a white Ford E-350 van traveling in the right lane approached him, the man put his hands in the air and stepped in front of the van. The driver reportedly swerved to miss the man, but the left front side of the van hit him, Detective Lt. Jason Valentine said.

The man was transported to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County with no visible injuries, and an update on his condition was not available June 16, Valentine said.

He did not say if the van was damaged in the incident.

Valentine said no arrests were made, and authorities suspect the man may have been trying to kill himself.
