A 24-year-old Arnold man was arrested after he allegedly fled from police because he didn’t want to be stopped for speeding. He also allegedly caused a four-vehicle accident that injured another driver, Arnold Police reported.
A police officer was monitoring traffic speeds at about 1:05 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, on northbound Jeffco Boulevard near the Police Station, 2101 Jeffco Blvd., and the man drove past the cruiser in a 2005 Ford Five Hundred. The officer’s radar gun allegedly clocked the Ford’s speed at 60 mph in a 40-mph zone, the report said.
The officer turned on his cruiser’s lights and siren and pursued the car, and the driver appeared to accelerate to get away from the officer. When the officer got to the intersection of Jeffco Boulevard and Church Road, he saw the Ford had crashed into a 2008 Ford F-250 while trying to turn from Jeffco onto Church. A 48-year-old Arnold man was driving the pickup, headed south on Jeffco, when the car struck it, Arnold Police reported.
The pickup then struck a 2017 Dodge van driven by a 74-year-old Arnold man. In addition, the fleeing driver also hit a 2006 Buick Lucerne driven by a 40-year-old Arnold man, the report said.
The driver of the F-250 was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated and released, Cpl. Brett Ackermann said.
No injuries were reported for the other drivers.
The Five Hundred was totaled, and the F-250 was extensively damaged, and they were towed from the scene. The van and Lucerne had minor damage, and the vehicles were driven from the scene, the report said.
The driver of the Five Hundred was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants. Arnold Police will seek charges against him through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for second-degree assault, armed criminal action, property damage, careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident, speeding, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, failure to drive in a single lane, failure to use a turn signal and driving without insurance, Ackermann said.
The driver allegedly told officers he didn’t stop for the cruiser because he didn’t have insurance and didn’t want to receive a ticket, Arnold Police reported.
