Eight people, including a Cedar Hill man, were hurt Thursday afternoon (July 30) in a three-vehicle accident at Hwy. 30 and Local Hillsboro Road in Cedar Hill, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.
At 3:47 p.m., Richard L. Eime, 65, of Cedar Hill was headed east in a 1995 Freightliner and while he tried to slow down, the big rig began to skid, ran off the north side of the road and become airborne before striking a van and then overturning and striking another van head-on, the report said.
Eime sustained moderate injuries and was taken by North Jefferson County Ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County, where he was listed in fair condition this morning (July 31), a hospital spokeswoman said.
Bryan W. Maddox, 35, of Dittmer was driving the first van that was struck, a 2004 Chevrolet Venture. No injuries were reported for him
Philip H. Rott, 30, of Gerald was driving the van that was struck head-on, a 2003 Pontiac Montana. He was taken by Big River Ambulance to St. Anthony’s, where he was listed in serious condition this morning, the spokeswoman said.
Six passengers in the Pontiac van also were hurt. They were Michael R. Heflin, 44, of Bland, and Megan R. Rott, 28, of Owensville, both seriously hurt; Denene M. Gehlert, 32, of Belle, Adam P. Rott, 7, of Gerald, Emily R. Rott, 5, of Gerald, and Trever J. Rott, 2, of Gerald, all moderately hurt, according to the report.
Others transported to St. Anthony’s were Gehlert, who was taken by ambulance and was listed in serious condition this morning, and Adam, Emily and Trever Rott, who were taken by ambulance and then transferred to another area hospital, the spokeswoman said.
Heflin and Megan Rott were taken by helicopter to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, the report said.
Mercy Hospital had no information about Heflin or Megan Rott, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Everyone involved in the accident, except for Eime, was wearing a seat belt or restrained with a safety device, the patrol reported.
The Freightliner and Chevrolet van sustained moderate damage, and the Pontiac van was totaled, the report said.
