We were 10 minutes late, and everyone outside the church cheered when we drove up. It was a very memorable occasion.” The car was bought in June 1991 and sold 25 years later.

Paul drove the car daily from 1966-1978, then Dan’s brother, Dean, drove it daily until 1981, when he died. “The car sat for almost 20 years when Paul decided to restore it back to its original state,” Dan said. “Paul passed away in 2008 and (I) inherited the car.” Eventually, Tyler will inherit the car, then pass it down to his children, Dan said.
Nancy Wood, 77, of De Soto sent a picture taken at the Texaco station in De Soto of the 1957 Chevrolet Belair she and her late husband, John B. Wood, restored. When the couple got married in 1967, John had a different 1957 Chevrolet Belair that he sold, which was later totaled. “John always said, ‘I wish we hadn’t sold that car’ as it was the first car he ever owned,” Nancy said. “This began his quest to find another ’57 Chevy, which he found and the restoration began. The car was totally taken off its frame, which revealed a California frame – meaning, I believe, it was a (rare) one-piece frame. It was a labor of love.” They restored the car with the help of some friends: Dick Courtoier, who knew owned many ’57 Chevys and knew them well; Bruce Blaylock, who did the body work and paint, which earned an award for best paint at a De Soto Amvets car show; Tommy, who was an upholsterer in Pevely and restored the interior to look brand new; and many more. John was proud of the car, which he bought for $200 in 1974, Nancy said. “John’s granddaughter, Zoe Wood, wants to drive it now. John would be pleased she has an interest in the car. David Johnson, a friend and mechanic, is going to make sure the ’57 is in good running order and it will be out on the road again, going to car shows and cruises.”

In 2007, he bought the only new tractor in his life and enjoyed being on it until he was 91. When he came out here, so did his tractor and, before he passed, he gave it to me. When I use it, to this day, I feel him there behind the wheel with me. I still smile when I reflect on the adventures he had with that machine.”
Greg Gottfried, 69, of Cedar Hill sent a picture of his 1971 Datsun 240Z he used to have. “I was 21 and wanted a sports car. When I answered the ad, I was hooked and bought it from a county police officer,” Greg said. “September of 1979 found me and my Z high in the Rockies on the Rampart Range road on the way to Denver from Colorado Springs. I stopped for a bit on the dirt road that follows the crest of the easternmost ridge of the Rocky Mountains to admire the scenery. That's something best done whilst stationery on that particular drive, and that's when I took this photo of my precious. Sadly, I later totaled it two months prior to my marriage, but it served me well – I walked away with only a bump on my head, received after I released my seat/shoulder harness and hit my head on the roof. Yes, we were inverted, but it protected me after many years and miles.”

We had hopes of restoring it someday, but it was too far gone. I found this car at a local automotive shop, and my husband bought it.
