The Jefferson County Health Department has reported four more flu-related deaths for a total of seven so far this respiratory season. The latest deaths were reported to the department during the week of Feb. 2.
The Health Department’s respiratory report for the week of Feb. 2, which was released today, Feb. 13, shows 461 flu cases. The report indicates cases were down from the week of Jan. 26, when flu cases were at the highest since the respiratory season began Sept. 29. An updated report shows a total of 605 cases of flu that week.
So far this season, 1,889 flu cases have been reported in Jefferson County. Nearly 96 percent have been type A flu.
A total of 2,607 COVID cases have been reported to the Health Department since the respiratory season began, including 133 cases during the week of Feb. 2. The highest number was the week of Dec. 22 with 233 cases.
Health Department spokesperson Brianne Zwiener said the agency is not reporting COVID-related deaths this season due to technical issues related to the state switching to a different reporting system.
When the department gets the data, it will be added to the respiratory reports, she said.
