The Jefferson County Health Department has reported one more flu-related death, for a total of 14 since the respiratory season began on Sept. 29. The latest death was listed on the Health Department’s report for the week of March 30. That report was released on Wednesday, April 9.

So far this respiratory season, which ends May 17, there have been 4,052 flu cases reported to the Health Department, with 94 percent being type A. The season peaked at 733 cases the week of Feb. 2.

There have been 18 COVID-related deaths reported this respiratory season. No additional COVID-related deaths were reported during the week of March 30.

There have been 3,074 COVID cases reported to the Health Department this respiratory season. COVID cases peaked the week of Dec. 22, with 233 cases.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone 6 months and older get an annual influenza (flu) vaccine. Health officials also recommend people get the COVID vaccine.
