Meeting a need: Caregivers Choice offers daytime program for seniors
Caregivers Choice in House Springs has created a “home away from home” daytime program for seniors, director and registered nurse Nicki White said.
“We provide a daytime program where individuals who are seniors 65 years or older, with or without a disability or medical condition, can come and just have an atmosphere to socialize,” she said.
White said her mission at Caregivers Choice, 12 Gravois Station Road, is to support caregivers who may need to go to work or run errands.
“Also, our goal at this day care health program is to help keep individuals independent and to be able to strengthen them so they don't have to be placed in the nursing home,” she said.
White said her facility offers an “upscale environment.”
“When the state (Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services) came in and did my inspection, they were just shocked at how much the facility doesn't look like a normal adult day care,” White said. “My furniture is upscale; I have cherry wood furniture. I didn't go and get regular plastic tables and things like that.”
White said seniors who attend the program take part in crafts, recreational activities and more.
She said there is also a licensed nurse on staff.
“She (the nurse) is able to do some skilled nursing, like if an individual has a wound or something like that. We're able to provide care and do some continuity of care with a primary caregiver.”
She said the program has a maximum capacity of 20 people to make sure everyone gets the care they need.
White said her facility is licensed by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
Caregivers Choice is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
