Six athletes and two teams from Jefferson College have received academic all-American honors from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for the 2012-2013 year.
Topping the list are softball player Kayla Meier, a Fox High graduate, who finished with a 3.81 grade-point average (GPA), and volleyball player Abby Landewee (3.84). Both received Superior Academic Achievement awards for having a GPA of 3.80 or higher. Meier also was Jefferson’s Scholar-Athlete of the year for 2012-2013.
Four athletes were honored for Exemplary Academic Achievement (GPA of 3.60 to 3.79): volleyball players Kelsey Schlake (3.73) and Jessica Gray (3.71), soccer player Ryan Smelcer (3.72) and Blake Martin (3.77) from the baseball team. The Viking volleyball and softball teams achieved academic all-American status with team GPAs of 3.35 and 3.07 respectively.
