Tracey Simpson of Festus sent in this photo of her blue merle Australian shepherd, whom she says can open doors with her mouth.

Sophie Grace, a blue merle Australian shepherd can open doors.

Here she is as a puppy in a June 2017 photo taken at owner Tracey Simpson’s Festus home.

Sophie Grace does more than just push open doors, Simpson said.

“She’s a character,” Simpson said. “She’s very smart, knows how to open doors. She can take the knob in her mouth and turn it.”

Now 2, Sophie Grace is energetic.

“She’s very playful,” Simpson said. “She loves her Jolly Horse Ball toy. They’re actually for horses, but she destroys all other balls.

“She’s a squirrel chaser. Thank God she’s never caught one.”

Sophie Grace gets along well with the family’s other dog, Lexy, a 12-year-old blue merle, Simpson said.

“She keeps Lexy active.

“This kind of breed is very loyal. I’ll probably never have another kind of dog.”
