Sandy, a schnauzer from Crystal City, would be put in a toy high chair by Bertha Propst's granddaughter when the dog was a puppy.

Sandy was a 2-month-old puppy when this photo of her in a toy high chair was taken in a September 2009 at the Crystal City home of Bertha Propst.

Propst said her granddaughter, Hannah Jones, would play with Sandy and the miniature schnauzer was a good sport.

“It’s a high chair for a doll,” she said. “Hannah, at that time, played with dolls. She put Sandy in the high chair. Sandy just sat there, and Hannah pretended she was feeding her.”

Propst said Sandy died about five years ago but is fondly remembered.

“She was a very friendly, loving dog,” she said. “She was supportive to Hannah. Sandy was the best dog Hannah ever had. They were best friends. Wherever Hannah went, Sandy was with her.”

At bed time, Sandy remained with Hannah.

“Sandy would sleep on Hannah’s bed with her and all her stuffed animals,” Propst said. “You wouldn’t even know where Sandy was.”
