Kim Hafley of Pacific said Maggie, her rescue cat, is fascinated by bird videos. Here she is in a December 2019 photo taken at the Hafley home.
“She loves, loves, loves bird videos on YouTube,” said Hafley, who grew up in Eureka.
Hafley said she adopted Maggie, who is 4 1/2 years old, in 2016 through Stray Rescue in St. Louis.
“She was feral and very afraid of people,” Hafley said. “When I got her, you couldn’t touch her. She’s come a long, long way. I lived alone at the time and she was snuggling with me within a week. She is our baby and very spoiled.”
Maggie, who often shadows Hafley, is playful.
“She’s independent, but nosy,” Hafley said. “She follows me everywhere in case I’m going to feed her. She loves to play with her toys.”
Hafley advocates for people rescuing pets from shelters.
“I would strongly encourage everyone to adopt a rescue instead of buying a pet,” she said.
