Mitch Norris says he can easily summon Kitty the Queen, a cockatiel, anytime he likes.
“If I tap on my shoulder, she’ll fly to my shoulder,” he said. “If I tap on my head, she’ll fly to my head. If you whistle at her, she’ll say, ‘I’m a pretty bird.’ I’m the one that trains her.”
Kitty is one of four cockatiels that Norris and his wife, Sue, own and keep at their Arnold home. Along with Kitty, they have Bert, 12, Susie, 1, and Sammy, 9 months. Bert and Kitty are mom and dad to the two young ones.
“Kitty and Bert are in one cage and Susie and Sammy are in another,” Norris said. “They fly all over the house. If they have to go to the bathroom, they fly back to their cages and sit on their perch. I don’t know how they learned it. We didn’t teach them.”
Norris said he and his wife like to watch their cockatiels.
“They’re very entertaining,” he said. “You’re never bored.”
