Pet Spot: Jersey an athletic Australian sheep dog

Ann Ashmore of Cedar Hill submitted a photo of her dog, Jersey, for Pet Spot.

Jersey, a 4-year-old Australian sheep dog, often displays her athletic abilities, said owner Ann Ashmore of Cedar Hill. Ashmore submitted this photo of Jersey chasing down a tossed Frisbee in the summer of 2024.

“She’s been in contests doing this,” she said. “She also likes dock diving. She’s got several titles for it. She does Fast Cat, where they run 100 yards. She does it in 7.7 seconds.”

Dock diving is a competitive event where dogs jump from a dock that involves jumping, swimming and retrieving, according to the National Dog Sports website. The American Kennel Club website describes Fast Cat (Coursing Ability Test) as an event where a dog is timed chasing a lure on a set course.

Jersey is affectionate, at least to humans, Ashmore said.

“She loves people,” she said. “She doesn’t like dogs. She is very special to me and talented in so many ways.”

PET SPOT invites readers to tell a story about their pets or nonprofit animal adoption agencies to write about an adoptable pet and submit it, plus an attached photo, to news@myleaderpaper.com.
