Barbara Garrett of Festus says her dog, Finny, knows when it's play time

Barbara Garrett of Festus says her dog, Finny, knows when it's time to go outside and play with his toys.

Barbara Garrett took this photo in February in the family’s back yard. It shows 4-year-old Finny with some of his favorite toys.

“These are some of the balls he plays with. He’s got two favorite balls,” she said. “He also likes to play with a Frisbee. He’s a sweetheart. He loves people. He loves kids. He loves to play”

Finny has an inner clock telling him a designated time to play each day, Garrett said.

“Every evening at 5 o’clock he runs into the other room and barks. He actually kind of whines. It’s his play time,” Garrett said. “We don’t know how he knows it’s 5 o’ clock.”

She said her family got Finny from someone who was giving away pups on a store parking lot.

“He’s part black Lab,” she said. “We’re not sure of the other.”

Finny can be a bit leery of guys, Garrett said.

“For the most part he gets along with people and pets, although he can be standoffish to men until he gets to know them,” she said.
