Jan Bremerkamp of Arnold said her dog, Bullet, finds comfort in his stuffed animals.
“He sleeps with them like a kid,” she said.
Bullet, approximately 8 years old, is a boxer-pit bull mix.
“We rescued him four years ago from STAT, Saving the Animals Together, in Jackson, Tenn.,” Bremerkamp said. “Bullet was involved in a hoarding situation with many other dogs and, unfortunately, when the owner found out the rescue was coming to take his dogs, he opened fire on the pack. Bullet somehow survived a bullet wound to his right temple. The scar is still there, but he is healed and has no long-term disabilities due to the gunshot wound.”
Bremerkamp said Bullet has been a great addition to her household.
“He is kind, gentle and loving to our daughter,” she said. “He licks and loves our two cats and he is 100 percent house-trained and knows basic commands to sit, lay down and stay.
“He’s always been super calm. He’s definitely on the chill side.”
Bremerkamp encourages others to consider adopting pets.
“Bullet is a perfect reminder that adoption is so important to our furry friends,” she said. “Go to your local shelter or rescue and look at those older dogs, the ones that might be overlooked and think about how great you can make their lives.”
