Linda Bone of Arnold submitted this photo of her son, Andrew, and their beloved family pet, Sophie.
“We had to put her down before Thanksgiving in 2016,” she said. “Sophie was 13. She was a good companion to Andrew. This dog smiled.”
Sophie was a golden Labrador.
“She loved people,” she said. “She was definitely a good friend.”
Andrew submitted an account he wrote about dealing with the loss of Sophie, and an excerpt follow:
Day 7:
Thanksgiving Day: first holiday without her. House feels empty even though it's not (nieces and nephews are here). We go to Traci's for Thanksgiving dinner. I hear (people) talking about me crying and how I never cry. I say you know I can hear you right? She says men don't usually get emotional. She turns to her husband’s brother to ask, “Do you ever cry in general?” He says “Every day on the way home from work,” and everyone laughs.
I had two different endings in mind.
I decided to end with a joke because she wouldn't want us to be sad. She would want to remember all the good times.
