Linda Brandt of De Soto said her 12-year-old quarter horse, Bella, is not aware she is a horse. The photo is from March 2013, the night Bella was born.
She said she actually co-owns Bella with Olivia Cueva of Blackwell.
“Bella never knew she was a horse,” Brandt said. “She doesn’t act like a normal horse. She acts like she’s a human.
“She thought I was her mama. She is very attached to me.”
Bella’s mother, Buffy Sweet, had her at an advanced age, she said.
“It was a Good Friday,” Brandt said. “It was a blessing because the mare was 22. They say it’s very difficult to get a mare pregnant after they’re 14 or 15.”
She said Buffy Sweet is a direct descendant of one of the original quarter horses.
“They started the breed,” she said. “She’s a direct descendant of one of the horses that started the American quarter horse breed.”
