Asher, a 1 1/2-year-old mixed breed cat, enjoys hanging out on one of his owner's chair.

Kim Kirk of Arnold said she regularly uses her foot to give belly rubs to her cat, Asher.

“Every morning when I’m drinking my coffee, he’ll flop at my feet and I have to give him a belly rub with my foot,” Kirk said.

Kirk said she adopted Asher, 1 1/2, a mixed breed cat, from Jefferson County Animal Control.

He loves to hang out in one of Kirk’s chairs.

“This is his favorite spot,” she said of the photo taken in March 2017.

Kirk said Asher is one of three cats and two dogs her family owns.

“He’s very sweet,” she said. “He’s a very furry, sweet guy. He gets along with the other pets. One of our dogs – Pepper, a Pomeranian – barks at him. She’s constantly barking at him. He just ignores her.”

On occasion, Asher gets out of the house if someone leaves the back door open, but he cannot escape the fenced-in yard.

“If someone closes the door while he’s out there, he’ll come back and meow to come in,” Kirk said. “He likes to talk.”

She said she was happy to adopt Asher.

“We named him ‘Asher’ because Asher means ‘blessed’ from the Bible and we feel blessed that we were able to save him,” Kirk said.
