Pet Spot: Dittmer woman helps tend to daughter’s mini donkeys

Denise Steen of Dittmer submitted a photo of her daughter’s donkeys, for Pet Spot.

Denise Steen of Dittmer submitted this photo of her daughter and son-in-law’s miniature donkeys. She took the photo in the spring of 2025.

The mini donkeys, both 15 years old, are named Penny and Francis. They live on property in Lonedell owned by Michelle and Shawn Wallace.

“My husband, Bob, and I go to (Michelle and Shawn’s) place every day to help feed the donkeys,” Steen said. “They both work at other jobs. We’re retired, so we feed the donkeys while they’re at work.

“The donkeys are so spoiled. They start braying when they see us.”

She said she is fond of Penny and Francis.

“They’re really gentle and sweet,” Steen said. “They’re a little bit bigger than a German shepherd.”

PET SPOT invites readers to tell a story about their pets or nonprofit animal adoption agencies to write about an adoptable pet and submit it, plus an attached photo, to news@myleaderpaper.com.
