The MOBB (Missouri Big Band), a collective of current and retired music teachers as well as other adults who like getting together to play music, performed their Swingin' Under the Stars concert Sunday (Aug. 18) at West City Park in Festus. The group, conducted by Joe Pappas, leaned heavily on Big Band and swing-era favorites, but veered into more contemporary fare occasionally by playing classics by James Brown and Bob Seger. Smooth-as-silk vocalist Joe Scalzitti took the microphone often, crooning favorites from the Frank Sinatra songbook as well as selections from other vocalists. While most of the audience was content to sit and listen, a few were inspired to take to the dance floor in front of the park's bandstand.
