The Festus High School Jazz Band performed its annual "Jazz in the Gym" concert Thursday (May 10) with the high school gym decked out like a jazz club, with muted lights, round tables with tablecloths and candles ... and, of course, jazz music. The Jazz Band performed a number of classics, then yielded the bandstand to the Missouri Big Band, a collection of area music teachers and other adults. The band is led by Joe Pappas, with vocal stylings supplied by Festus High grad Joe Scalzitti. The two bands then intermingled for a few more numbers before calling it a night ... long before most jazz clubs would close, of course.
