The curtain lifted Thursday on the first Festus High School Speech and Theater Program's production in the new Festus R-6 Performing Arts Center, "Annie."

The musical, adopted loosely from the classic comic strip, follows the spirited redhead through her days at an orphanage to her meeting with billionaire Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks, who takes a liking to her.

Along the way, Annie and the cast and crew of about 70 take the audience on a series of adventures and misadventures.

"Annie" continues at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and ends its run at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5. Concessions, T-shirts and lockets (an integral part of Annie's story) will be sold by the SOS (Support Our Stars) theater booster group.
