Windsor Elementary School kindergarten teacher Sherri Roth has been nominated for a national “LifeChanger of the Year Award,” which recognizes K-12 educators and school employees from around the country “who are making a significant difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence and leadership,” according to the program website.
She was nominated by Denise Funston, the principal at Windsor Elementary in Kimmswick, which enrolls kindergartners through second-graders.
In her nomination, Funston said Roth “has the ability to really connect with students other teachers have difficulty reaching. In fact, those are her favorite kids. She never gives up on her students and is determined to see them succeed."
Each year, the LifeChanger of the Year Award program receives hundreds of nominations and then 10 winners are picked by a selection committee and they receive cash prizes to be split between the teachers and their schools. The grand-prize winner will receive a $10,000 prize. The top three winners are honored at a national awards ceremony.
Roth said she was surprised to learn she had been nominated for the award.
“I thought it was a joke,” she said.
Roth, who lives in St. Louis County, has been a teacher at Windsor Elementary since 2002. She taught second grade for three years and has been teaching kindergarten since then.
The LifeChanger of the Year program is funded and run by National Life Group and the National Life Group Foundation.
