The Twin City Area Optimist Club honored six officers at its annual Respect for Law Observance, held May 16 at Poppy’s Parlor in Crystal City.
Honorees were Sgt. Billy Reese of the Crystal City Police Department, Cpl. Jason Darian of the Hillsboro Police Department, Deputy Keith Smith Jr. of Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Officer Michael Jennewein of the Herculaneum Police Department, Sgt. Corey Fitzsimmons of the Festus Police Department and Sgt. Dirk Helms of the De Soto Police Department.
Each police department’s staff and chief nominated officers for the award, which recognized the officers for going above and beyond their daily duties to serve their community and co-workers, said Optimist Club member Cindy Cherry, who helped plan the event.
“They put their lives on the line daily,” Cherry said. “We want them to know how much we appreciate their service.”
Each officer was given a plaque and a gift card from Main & Mill Brewing Co. in Festus.
