Seventh- and eighth-grade students in Michelle Storment’s gifted education class at Senn-Thomas Middle School recently traveled to Chicago to participate in the 21st annual Future City Regional Competition. This year’s theme was “Tomorrow’s Transit,” and students were required to design a way to move people in and around their city.

The seventh-grade team received the “Most Livable Community Award” for the livability and potential of their future city, Saint Powell.

The eighth-grade team won the “Go to 2040 Award,” given for their plan implementation. The older team also took home the “Geotechnical Consideration for Subsurface Soils and Foundation Design Award,” which was given for the foundation and the use of subsurface in their future city, named Calatori City.

Alex Winter from Verallia in Pevely was the engineering mentor for the teams, and Verallia donated $600 to the class for the trip.
