The lawn in front of the Pevely Police Department was decorated with 100 pink flamingos June 25, courtesy of the Herculaneum High School volleyball team.
“It’s a Herculaneum volleyball team fundraiser,” Pevely Police Chief Tony Moutray said. “They came about 10 a.m. (June 25). They’ll take them away to put them somewhere else this evening. I think it’s just a way to make money. We gave them $200.”
A note came with the pink flamingos saying “Congratulations – You’ve been flocked!”
Moutray said his department had some fun with the pink flamingos during the day, taking pictures of them in situations like riding bikes and playing cards.
A spokeswoman with Blackcat volleyball said the team and its supporters are raising funds to assist the team with items like equipment and jerseys.
Blackcat Coach Audrey Meda said the money is also used to support breast cancer awareness and autism awareness.
