A video featuring the Pevely Police Department lip-syncing that was posted July 9 on Facebook has attracted an avalanche of attention.

“Yeah, it’s been crazy how many views and likes and shares it’s gotten on Facebook,” Capt. Larry Miller said July 13. “We’re over 2 million now.”

The “story” portrayed in the video involves Mayor Stephanie Haas swiping the last doughnut left in a break room. Chief Tony Moutray and his officers lip-sync to the song “Sugar” by Maroon 5. Dancing and a trip to buy more doughnuts also are included.

“We did it Sunday (July 8) and posted it Monday,” Miller said. “It was Chief Moutray’s idea to do it.”

Miller said the video, inspired by similar videos created by police departments across the country in a Lip-Sync Challenge, is all for fun and positive public relations.

“We like to keep a good relationship with our public,” he said.

The department thanked House DJ Services + Entertainment, owned by Cole Coleman and Lauryn Braswell, for helping make the video in another Facebook post.
