Fox Middle School students and staff raised $2,500 at its second annual Autism Walk, which was held April 7 at the Fox High athletic stadium. The proceeds will be donated to Helping Hands and Horses, a nonprofit organization based in Festus that provides equine therapy to people with autism and other special needs, said Deborah Hickerson, a teacher at Fox Middle.
About 350 Fox Middle students walked at the fundraiser, she said.
“The walk was a success thanks to all of the Fox Middle Schools students and staff who participated,” Hickerson said.
She said Fox Middle parent volunteers also helped with the event, which was organized by the school’s National Junior Honor Society, as well as Hickerson’s CHAT (Communicating to Help Achieve Togetherness) classes.
Fox Middle teachers Kim Manis and Chris Brouk, who sponsor the National Junior Honor Society, also helped organize the fundraiser.
