St. Pius X High School

St. Pius X Catholic High School in Crystal City closed its building today (Nov. 10) after some students tested positive for COVID-19.

The school is scheduled to reopen Tuesday (Nov. 17). In the meantime, all students will learn online from home after some students tested positive for COVID-19.

No classes were held at the school on Monday (Nov. 9), but students were allowed in the building to pick up books and other supplies to use at home.

“We got a few positive cases at the end of last week,” Principal Karen DeCosty said Monday. “It created a quarantine bigger than we’ve been experiencing. I felt (going all-virtual) was in the best interests of our students.

She said students who tested positive should have completed quarantine by Nov. 17.

The school has 281 students enrolled, and until Monday that had been attending classes in person five days a week, DeCosty said.

She said the virtual classes are being conducted as if the students are in school.

“The teachers are at school each day. All of the students are required to have laptop devices,” DeCosty said. “They have to be on for live feeds of their classes.”

The Crystal City, Fox and Grandview school districts also have closed school buildings because of the pandemic.
