Six Flags in Eureka plans to reopen its gates to members and season pass holders on Monday (June 22), with the amusement park opening to other guests later, the company announced today (June 9) in a written statement.
Hurricane Harbor, the water park at Six Flags, won’t reopen on June 22, though. A reopening date for the water park will be announced later, the statement said.
Six Flags previously was scheduled to open for the summer on March 18, but delayed the reopening because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are very excited to be able to open and welcome our guests back to Six Flags St. Louis,” Six Flags St. Louis Park President Phil Liggett said.
When the amusement park reopens, new rules will be in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
All members, pass holders and guests will be required to make reservations to visit the park in an effort to limit the number of people in the park at one time.
The park will be in “preview mode” from June 22-25, when only members and season pass holders may enter, after making reservations. Then, the park will reopen to all guests over the next month, according to the written statement.
Diamond and diamond elite members may start making reservations at 9 a.m. Thursday (June 11), followed by all other members at noon Thursday, season pass holders at 9 a.m. Friday (June 12), and general guests at 9 a.m. Monday (June 15).
When Six Flags reopens, several other precautions will be in place to limit the spread of the virus.
A contactless, thermal-imaging device will be used to take staff members’ and guests’ temperatures, and any guest older than 2 must wear a face mask. In addition, the park will have an empty row or seat between guests to adhere to social-distancing guidelines.
“The health and safety of our guests and team members remains our No. 1 priority,” Liggett said.” All of these new safety measures are designed to create an environment where our guests can have fun with family and friends and feel safe while doing so.”
Touchless bag checks will be conducted before guests enter the park. Also, rides, restrooms, dining areas and other areas of the park will be cleaned regularly throughout the day.
“We have developed a comprehensive reopening safety plan that includes protocols designed by theme park and water park industry experts, along with best practices from top destination parks from around the world, which will allow guests to experience our parks in the safest way possible,” Six Flags President and CEO Mike Spanos said. “This ’new normal’ will be different in some ways, but we believe these additional measures are appropriate in the current environment.”
