The Bahr family of Arnold delivered a special treat April 17 to workers at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.

After holding a 10-day fundraiser, the Bahrs bought more than 350 cookies from Harter Bakery in the Arnold area and gave them to employees at the hospital.

The family wanted to thank hospital staff for their work during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as for the care their 5-year-old son, Blake, continues to receive there after receiving a life-saving kidney transplant in January 2016.

The family created an event called “Cookies for COVID-19 Caregivers” on their “Brave Blake’s Battle” Facebook page to raise the funds for the cookies. The family wrote, “We have been trying to think of a small way to give back to Blake’s hospital, Cardinal Glennon, and those working on the front lines.”

The fundraiser was held April 4 through April 14, and the family collected $580, Blake’s mother, Heather, said.

“We were blown away by the response,” she said.

Heather said Blake, who was at the hospital for blood work the day the cookies were delivered, is doing great. She said Blake’s results were “good enough” that he will not need to return to the hospital for another month.
