Work to build a Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Festus is expected to begin in a few months, said Amanda Norton, spokeswoman for the company.

“Currently, it looks like we will start construction this summer, but the (opening) date is to be determined,” she said.

Festus City Administrator Greg Camp said March 3 that Texas Roadhouse representatives had filed the paperwork for permits to build the steakhouse in the Festus Commerce & Business Center on the southern end of Shapiro Drive.

“Everything we need to issue the building permits has been turned in. I expect the permits will be issued by the end of the month,” Camp said.

Plans call for an 8,215-square-foot building that could accommodate approximately 300 customers, including the bar area, Norton said.

She said Texas Roadhouse will hire 220 employees, with 60 percent of those part-time employees and 40 percent full-time workers.

Norton said the company considers Festus an attractive location for a Texas Roadhouse.

“Festus is a great area that’s growing,” she said. “We’ve had a lot of success in Missouri and we are excited to open another location for our guests to enjoy.”

The Festus Commerce & Business Center, under development by Larry Goodwin, lies along I-55 south of Hwy. A and includes a KFC and a Planet Fitness gym, among other businesses.
