Tauqeer Haider, owner of Oak Valley Golf Course & Resort in Pevely, said he is not selling the facility, just an unused portion of the property.

In 2015, Haider, 59, and a partner bought the 300-plus-acre property at 1230 Abbey Lane, formerly known as the Teamsters Health and Medical Camp.

Recently he decided to sell a relatively small portion of the property along Commercial Boulevard (Hwy. 61-67), which led to misconception that the entire facility is up for sale.

“I’m selling 20 acres on 61-67 in front,” Haider said July 12. “It’s unused, the part I’m selling. People got the wrong idea.

“By selling the 20 acres, it will not affect the facility. The golf course, the water park … everything will continue on.”

He said he and his family have spent a great deal of money renovating the facility and have no plans to sell it to developers, even though a steady stream of them literally have been banging on his door at his St. Louis County home to offer to buy it.

“In the past two or three years, we’ve had 15 to 20 buyers offering to buy 50 acres or so to develop. People have come to the door of my house and asked if I’m interested in selling the property. We don’t want people to develop everything.

“I’ve put about $4 million into this property. We have put so much work into it.”

He said he and his family feel the facility provides an entertaining, wholesome place for families.

“We have a beautiful water park,” Haider said. “We have a beautiful banquet hall, restaurant, RV park and campground. There’s a large lake for fishing. If a family comes for the weekend, kids can fish or enjoy the water park. There is something for the whole family.

“(The Haider family) is in the health care business, LabTest Diagnostics. We know Jefferson County is being badly involved with drugs. Me and my wife, Rubina, decided when we bought the facility we wanted to give kids an outlet rather than turning to drugs.”

Haider said the facility has become a popular site for weddings and receptions.

“We are booked to 2024 with weddings,” he said.

Haider said many people don’t realize the facility is open to the public, and people may pay a fee to use the various amenities.

“You don’t need a membership to play golf (or use other amenities). People will think it’s a private place, but it’s open to the public.”

He said he believes Oak Valley Golf Course & Resort offers something unique to the region.

“You will not find anything like this unless you drive four or five hours from St. Louis,” he said.

Ammar Haider, one of Haider’s three children, said the family is happy to offer the use of the facility to guests.

“I think we value the people here,” he said. “We appreciate the ambience.”

Pevely Mayor Stephanie Haas said she appreciates Oak Valley Golf Course & Resort and feels it is a valuable asset to the community.

“I think our residents and community enjoy having it,” Haas said. “I think it’s a benefit to the community.”
