Six Main general manager Tyler Bryant, left, and Main & Mill Brewing Co. co-owner Denny Foster in the rear area of the building that houses Main & Mill’s brewing vats. The front of the building is slated to become bar, restaurant and tasting room spaces.

Denny Foster and his father, Barry Foster, co-owners of Main & Mill Street Brewing Co. in Festus, plan to open a cocktail, whiskey and wine bar just down the block from their popular restaurant and brewery at 240 E. Main Street.

They are expected to open Six Main bar at 6 E. Main St., this spring, with two other business ventures to open down the line, said Denny Foster.

He said he and his father own a building on the opposite end of the block from Main & Mill and plan to divide the front portion of it into three spaces – the 800-square-foot space where they will operate the Six Main bar, another 800-square-foot space at 8 E. Main St. that they will rent out for a restaurant and a 1,100-square-foot space at 10 E. Main St. that they will operate themselves as a tasting room for Main & Mill beers.

“We also might be doing our own wine,” Foster said.

He said there also will be a 500-square-foot space for a restroom area to serve all three enterprises.

Foster said he has not set a timetable for renting out the restaurant space or for opening the tasting room.

Those projects will come after Six Main opens, he added.

The Festus City Council approved a liquor license on Feb. 13 to cover the Six Main bar, as well as the tasting room, which has not yet been named.

Tyler Bryant, who will be the Six Main general manager, said the bar will not be the usual drinking establishment found around the county.

“There will be interesting spirits,” Bryant said. “There will be boutique brands of whiskey. There will be agave spirits – tequila and mezcal. We’ll have hand-cut ice, crystal-clear ice.”

Six Main will have a capacity of 42 patrons, and Bryant said he expects the clientele to include a wide range of people 21 and older.

“I’m thinking an age range of 30 to 70,” Foster said.

“I’d like to see it as a date night place,” Bryant added.

The bar will be open from 4-10 p.m. on Thursdays, 4-11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and noon to 8 p.m. on Sundays. It will be closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Six Main will offer a few snacks for sale.

“We may have some package bar snacks,” Bryant said. “People will be able to buy food at the adjacent restaurant (at 8 Main St. when it opens) and bring it into Six Main.”

The back of the building the Fosters own houses the Main & Mill brewing operation, and they have plans for that area as well.

“The back area will be a carryover area for Six Main,” Denny Foster said. “It possibly will be an events space that could hold 150 to 200 people.”

He said a website for Six Main, sixmainfestus.com, is under development and will offer information about the establishment.

“Stay tuned for more,” he said.
