The Jefferson County Family YMCA in Festus has reopened, after closing in mid-March because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

YMCA personnel did not return calls for comment.

However, according to the YMCA website, group classes and some of the YMCA’s other programs and services are still unavailable because of recommendations from health officials to continue social distancing and other measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus,

Even though the YMCA facility reopened May 11, the pool and sauna remain closed, and exercise equipment has been rearranged to “support social distancing,” the website said.

The YMCA will not offer towel service or coffee, and there will be no access to drinking fountains or seating in the lobby. People will not be allowed to check out basketballs or other items from the front desk, according to the website.

In addition, the YMCA currently is open only to members, so no guest or day passes are being accepted, the website said.

Members are “encouraged” to wear masks at the YMCA, except for when they are working out, and masks are available at the Welcome Center, according to the website.

YMCA staff members are required to have temperature checks and wear personal protective equipment.

The YMCA will continue to offer online group classes for members, the website said.

According to the website, membership fees were not charged in April or May, but the company plans to charge the fees again for June.

The YMCA hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
