The Arnold City Council voted unanimously and enthusiastically Aug. 2 to approve a conditional-use permit for a MOD Pizza to open at 1261 Water Tower Place.
It will be the first MOD Pizza in Jefferson County.
Arnold city officials and staff did not know when construction would start or when the restaurant would open, and MOD Pizza representatives could not be contacted for more information.
The Arnold Planning Commission had recommended approval of the conditional-use permit, and City Administrator Bryan Richison reminded council members that they didn’t have to vote for the approval to stand. However, Ward 1 Councilman Jason Fulbright said he was thrilled about the restaurant coming and wanted to vote on it, so he made a motion to approve the permit.
Dave Zimmerman, who’s listed as the Arnold MOD Pizza owner on the permit application, attended the Aug. 2 City Council meeting.
“It’s fast casual, he said. “You walk down the line and put the ingredients you want on the pizza and we bake it,” he said. “It costs $7.87, no matter how many toppings.”
The restaurant also will sell specialty pizzas and salads.
MOD Pizza, a company founded in 2008 by a husband and wife team in Seattle, now has 366 restaurants in the U.S. and Europe.
There are five MOD Pizza restaurants in the St. Louis area, including ones in Ladue, Kirkwood, Ellisville, St. Charles, Maryland Heights and Wentzville.
